Family members of the late BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia visited her grave on Friday morning.
Those who paid their respects included Sharmila Rahman Sithi, wife of Khaleda Zia’s younger son Arafat Rahman Koko, and Zaima Rahman, daughter of her elder son Tarique Rahman. Several other family members were also present.
A number of BNP leaders and activists accompanied the family during the grave visit.
Khaleda Zia died on Tuesday morning while undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital. On Wednesday, her funeral prayers took place at the Manik Mia Avenue in the capital, attended by representatives from various countries and hundreds of thousands of people.
Later in the afternoon, she was laid to rest with state honours beside the grave of former president Ziaur Rahman.
On the first morning of the English New Year, party leaders and activists began gathering from early hours at the Bijoy Sarani Road intersection, leading to a heavy influx of people on the surrounding roads. Although the road was open around 9 am, security personnel restricted public access to the burial site.
The authorities later opened the site to the public in the afternoon, allowing leaders and activists to pay their respects to the grave.
