Speaking at the roof casting ceremony of Thakurgaon Central Jame Mosque on Wednesday morning, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir told local people that he would uphold and fulfil the promises he made.
He reflected on his tenure, noting that as he had previously suggested, this would likely be his final election. Describing himself as a “son of this soil,” the minister expressed his gratitude to the residents for their unwavering support and for electing him with a landslide majority whenever he stood before them.
In a significant update regarding local administration and infrastructure, Fakhrul announced that government approval has been secured to split the Sadar Upazila to create two new upazilas.
He further confirmed that the long-standing demand of the local population for a Public University has been met with official approval.
The minister also revealed that permission for the establishment of a Medical College has already been obtained. He expressed his expectation that the construction work for the medical facility will be able to commence very shortly. Furthermore, efforts are reportedly ongoing to bring various other important institutions to Thakurgaon to bolster the district’s development.
