BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Friday addressed party chairman Tarique Rahman as the “future Prime Minister” of Bangladesh, framing him as the essential leader to rebuild the nation.
Addressing a massive election rally at the Rangpur District Collectorate Eidgah Maidan, Fakhrul presented Tarique to the crowd as the nation’s “guide and helmsman.”
Fakhrul stated that as the future prime minister, Tarique Rahman – the son of the Proclaimer of Independence Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and the uncompromising leader of democracy Begum Khaleda Zia – will lead the people in transforming Bangladesh into a developed nation.
He emphasised that Tarique is the leader who will move the country forward from the state of destruction left by the “fascist Awami League.”
Fakhrul noted that while in exile, Tarique has communicated a specific plan for the country’s future, which has been widely accepted by the people of Bangladesh.
According to the secretary general, the party is now waiting for the election on the 12th to establish this new leadership through the mandate of the people.
During the rally, Fakhrul warned of ongoing conspiracies to foil the election by a party that opposed independence in 1971. He asserted that the country currently requires firm leadership, and that Tarique Rahman’s leadership is the only one necessary for the nation at this time.
The rally was chaired by Shamsuzzaman Samu, convener of Rangpur Metropolitan BNP, and moderated by Mahfuz un Nabi Don, the metropolitan member secretary.
Other prominent speakers who addressed the gathering included BNP Standing Committee member Dr AZM Zahid Hossain and Organisational Secretary Asadul Habib Dulu, alongside candidates from the 33 constituencies of the Rangpur division.
Following the speeches, the secretary general led the supporters in slogans for the “Sheaf of Paddy” electoral symbol.
