Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) chairman of cricket operations, Nazmul Abedeen Fahim, has voiced optimism despite Bangladesh’s recent T20I series defeat to the West Indies. He believes the team’s setback is only temporary and that they will soon rediscover their rhythm.
Speaking to reporters at the BCB on 1 November, Fahim admitted that the team’s consistency had dipped after a strong run of results. “In the last T20 series, our consistency was disrupted a bit,” he said. “We had won four series in a row, so this break in momentum is disappointing, but it’s something we have to accept.”
Fahim noted that the batting unit fell short of expectations, especially considering the standards they had set in previous series. “Given the flow our team had, we expected better performances with the bat. Players like Jaker Ali Anik and Nurul Hasan Sohan were giving us valuable runs and playing match-winning innings earlier, but this time we lagged slightly in those areas,” he explained.
He further observed a visible dip in confidence among the batters. “The belief we were showing at the crease wasn’t quite there. Whether it was chasing targets or building big totals, we couldn’t take advantage of those opportunities. The batting strength we had seen in recent months was somewhat missing.”
Despite the disappointment, Fahim remains positive about the road ahead, framing the defeat as part of a learning curve. “Sometimes you perform well, sometimes you don’t. What matters is having the mentality to learn from it,” he said. “With time, the team will find its form again and perform with renewed confidence.”
