Globally acclaimed ‘F1’ director Joseph Kosinski has hinted that the wheels of a F1 sequel are very much in motion. Speaking to Deadline, he admitted he would relish the chance to return to the world of Sonny Hayes, played by Brad Pitt.
When asked whether audiences might see Hayes take to the circuit once more, Kosinski revealed that early discussions have begun. “I’d personally love to explore what else lies ahead for Sonny Hayes,” he said during Deadline’s Contenders Film Los Angeles event.
“I’d be keen to see how things develop for the APXGP team and for Joshua Pearce. It’s a story I’d happily continue and we’ve only just started to dream up where it could go next. It’s a fun stage to be in.”
In F1, Pitt portrays Hayes, a celebrated Formula 1 driver of the 1990s whose career is cut short by a devastating crash. 30 years on, he is working as a freelance racer when his former teammate, Ruben Cervantes (Javier Bardem), now running a faltering team, persuades him to take on one final challenge.
Hayes must confront both his past and his ambitious young teammate, Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris), as he attempts to lift the team back to glory.
The cast also includes Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, Sarah Niles, Kim Bodnia and Samson Kayo. The Apple-produced film, released through Warner Bros., proved a critical and commercial triumph, earning over Tk10,000 crore worldwide.
