A large cache of drugs, cash, and explosives was seized during an army-led raid at Geneva Camp in Mohammadpur early Thursday.
The operation ran from 12:30am to 2:30am, following intelligence received by Bosila Army Camp. The tip-off said top drug dealer and armed fugitive Buniya Sohel was preparing cocktails inside his residence at Geneva Camp. Four operational patrol teams were dispatched immediately.
When army personnel approached, Sohel, on the fifth floor, spotted them. He escaped by jumping onto the roof of a neighbouring building and fled, leaving all illegal items behind.
They also recovered 77 partially prepared cocktails, four sharp weapons, and yaba tablets.
An officer of the 46 Independent Infantry Brigade said, “The buildings in Geneva Camp are closely packed, and the area is very narrow, which allowed the main suspects to escape by jumping across several rooftops.”
“The large quantity of explosives we recovered suggests there may have been plans to carry out acts of sabotage in Dhaka city. We will continue our operations to arrest the suspects involved,” he added.
The seized drugs, cash, and explosives have been handed over to Mohammadpur Police Station for legal action.
