The Election Commission (EC) has announced that the voter registration process for expatriate Bangladeshis will begin in mid-October, ahead of the 13th parliamentary
elections.

According to EC officials, Bangladeshi citizens living abroad who hold National Identity Cards (NIDs) will be able to register as voters through a mobile application
developed by the Commission.

This marks the first time expatriate Bangladeshis will be able to actively participate in national elections. Officials estimate that nearly 70% of eligible expatriates may be able to complete the registration successfully.

The EC has already developed mobile applications to facilitate the process, although trial runs are still pending.

The registration process may follow a global model or adopt a region-based approach covering Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and North America. A final decision on the model is still under consideration.

The commission is now finalising the technical and procedural details to ensure a smooth and efficient registration process for expatriate voters.
