A retired police officer was killed after being struck by an unidentified vehicle while crossing a road in the capital’s Bhatara area on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Sekandar Ali, 72, a resident of Bashundhara Residential Area.
His son Md Rokon Uddin said Sekandar was crossing the road at around 12:30pm when a speeding vehicle hit him and fled the scene.
He was critically injured and first taken to Kurmitola General Hospital before being transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Doctors declared him dead at around 4:45pm.
Dhaka Medical College Hospital Police Camp In-Charge Inspector Md Faruk said the body had been kept at the hospital morgue.
The relevant police station had been informed for further legal action, he added.
