Police in Barguna arrested two individuals, including a former leader of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), during an anti-drug operation in Amtoli on Tuesday evening.
The arrestees have been identified as Abdullah Al Noman, also known as Jony Gazi, former member secretary of the Amtoli Municipal Chhatra Dal, and Sujan Hawlader, a known drug dealer. Law enforcement officials recovered 1,900 Yaba tablets and Tk 60,000 in cash, believed to be proceeds from drug sales.
According to police sources, the raid was conducted in the Khontakata Bottala area of Amtoli municipal town following a tip-off. The suspects were intercepted on suspicion, and a subsequent search led to the recovery of the drugs and cash.
Abu Shahadat Mohammad Hasnain Parvez, Officer-in-Charge of Amtoli Police Station, said the operation was part of a special drive to curb drug trafficking, extortion, theft, robbery, and other criminal activities.
He added that a case is currently being filed against the detainees under the Narcotics Control Act.
