Amirul Islam Milon, former lawmaker for Bagerhat‑4, has been shown arrested in a case filed over killing jute trader Md Monir at Shahbagh during the July uprising.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Rana issued the order following a petition from the investigation officer on Monday, said state prosecutor Harun‑or‑Rashid.
Shahbagh Police Station Sub‑inspector Mainul Islam Khan Pulak, also the investigation officer, filed the petition on 15 August seeking Milon’s arrest.
Milon’s lawyer Iqbal Mahmud Shovon applied for medical treatment, citing that Milon suffers from diabetes and high blood pressure. Another lawyer, Liton Mia, said the court directed the authorities to provide treatment as per prison regulations.
According to the case details, on 5 August 2024, the day of the fall of the Awami League government, jute trader Monir joined a student‑public protest in the Chankharpul area of Shahbagh. He was shot dead on the spot.
Following the incident, Monir’s wife Rozina Akter filed the case on 14 March, accusing 351 named individuals and listing another 500 unidentified persons.
