Bangabhaban on Thursday bid farewell to Acting President Hafiz Uddin Ahmad with a ceremonial programme marking the end of his 26-day tenure as acting head of state.
At around 11:30am, a smartly turned-out contingent of the President Guard Regiment (PGR) of the Bangladesh Army accorded Hafiz Uddin a guard of honour.
A joint military band, comprising members of the Army, Navy and Air Force, played a farewell tune during the ceremony.
A mounted contingent of Bangladesh Police also took part in the ceremonial send-off, escorting the outgoing acting president.
Before receiving the guard of honour, Hafiz Uddin signed the visitors’ book at Bangabhaban and exchanged greetings with officials and employees of the presidential palace.
Hafiz Uddin assumed the office of acting president on 24 July following the resignation of President Mohammed Shahabuddin.
He remained in the position for 26 days.
After completing his presidential duties, Hafiz Uddin left Bangabhaban at around 11:40am, ahead of the presidential election scheduled to begin at 2pm at the National Parliament Building.
