The Bangladesh Oscar Committee has invited filmmakers to submit films for consideration as the country’s official entry in the International Feature Film category at the 99th Academy Awards.
According to a notice issued on Thursday (20 August), interested producers and directors must complete the designated online application form and submit the required documents by 16 September, 2026.
Under the rules of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, eligible films must be feature-length productions running for more than 40 minutes.
Narrative features, animated films and documentaries may all be submitted for consideration.
More than 50 per cent of the film’s original dialogue track must be in a Bangladeshi language. The film must also contain clear and accurate English subtitles.
To qualify, a film must have been commercially screened for at least seven consecutive days for the general public at a commercial cinema in Bangladesh between 1 October, 2025 and 30 September, 2026.
Films that were made available to audiences through non-theatrical platforms before their commercial cinema release—including television, pay-per-view, OTT or streaming services, DVD, in-flight screenings or the internet—will not be eligible.
The film’s creative control must also be primarily held by Bangladeshi citizens or permanent residents.
The committee has advised applicants to provide complete and accurate information through the designated online form.
Applications may be rejected if they contain incorrect or incomplete information or fail to comply with Academy regulations.
The jury board will announce its decision on Bangladesh’s official submission for the 99th Academy Awards at 11am on September 27 at Hotel Sonargaon in Dhaka.
The application deadline is 16 September.
