Emraan Hashmi is facing a health setback as Awarapan 2 continues its successful run in cinemas. The actor has been diagnosed with swine flu.
According to Hindustan Times, H1N1 infections have risen sharply in Delhi and Mumbai during the monsoon. Delhi has recorded a significant number of cases this year, with H1N1 emerging as the dominant strain among Influenza-A infections reported in the capital.
Dr Manav Manchanda, director and head of respiratory, critical care and sleep medicine at Asian Hospital, recently told HT City that H1N1 can initially resemble seasonal viral fever, with symptoms including sudden fever, body ache, sore throat, cough, a runny nose and fatigue. However, the illness can become more intense, with higher fever, breathlessness and chest discomfort.
He said warning signs include difficulty breathing, persistent chest pain or pressure, bluish lips, a worsening cough beyond four to five days, drowsiness or confusion and reduced urine output in children. If such symptoms appear, or if a fever does not improve with usual medication within 48 hours, he advised patients to visit a hospital and get tested.
While Emraan recovers, Awarapan 2 continues to perform strongly at the box office. The film has crossed the ₹200 crore mark in theatrical collections.
Directed with Emraan in the lead, the film also stars Disha Patani, Puran Gabbi and Shabana Azmi.
Reviewing the film, HT noted that it evokes the era of the 2000s, when Vishesh Films produced crime thrillers such as Murder, Zeher and Gangster. Those films often featured Emraan Hashmi in the lead and songs that remained popular long after their theatrical runs.
HT said Awarapan 2 follows much of the same formula and, for the most part, succeeds.
