A Dhaka court has sentenced former Bangladesh Bank deputy governor Sitangshu Kumar Sur Chowdhury, also known as SK Sur, to three years in prison in a case filed by the Anti‑Corruption Commission (ACC) for failing to submit his statement of assets.
Judge Ayesha Nasrin of Dhaka Special Judge Court‑2 delivered the verdict on Tuesday, ACC prosecutor SM Abul Kalam confirmed.
Case documents state that SK Sur was served a notice requiring him to submit a full statement of assets including all immovable and movable properties, liabilities, sources of income, and acquisition details in his own name or in the names of dependents, whether disclosed or undisclosed.
He received the order and asset declaration form on 27 October last year but failed to submit the statement within 21 working days as required.
On 23 December, ACC Deputy Director Nazmul Hossain filed the case against Sur, his wife Suparna Sur Chowdhury, and daughter Nandita Sur Chowdhury. Later, on 25 August, ACC Deputy Director Md Ahsan Uddin submitted the charge sheet. On 6 November, the court framed charges and ordered trial proceedings to begin.
The court recorded testimony from seven witnesses during the trial.
On 14 January 2025, ACC arrested the former deputy governor from Dhaka’s Segunbagicha. He has remained in prison since then.
