Peter Mandelson, the former British Ambassador to the United States, was arrested on Monday on suspicion of misconduct in public office. Allegations against Mandelson involve claims that he passed information to the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein during his tenure as Business Secretary.

The 72-year-old veteran Labour Party politician was detained at an address in Camden, England and transported to a London police station for interrogation, reports CNN.

According to the Metropolitan Police, the arrest followed the execution of search warrants at two properties located in Camden and Wiltshire.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police confirmed the details of the operation to CNN, stating that the suspect remains in custody for interviewing about his involvement with Epstein.

Mandelson’s arrest follows his dismissal from his diplomatic role in Washington DC, by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer last year. According to reports from PA Media, the investigation into the former ambassador’s conduct is ongoing.
