Epson has intensified its campaign against counterfeit printing supplies in Bangladesh, working with law enforcement agencies in a series of operations across Dhaka that resulted in the seizure of more than 34,000 fake ink bottles and action against individuals involved in their manufacture and distribution.
The enforcement drive, conducted recently in 2026, covered several commercial areas of the capital, including Uttara, Paltan, Mirpur, Savar and New Elephant Road. Authorities detained 48 people, imposed financial penalties exceeding Tk 2.75 million and dismantled parts of what Epson described as localised counterfeit distribution networks, the company said in a press release.
The operations targeted both retail distribution points and a facility engaged in producing counterfeit Epson consumables and packaging materials.
During the raids, authorities uncovered a printing unit manufacturing counterfeit packaging products. Approximately 47,000 outer boxes and eight printing plates were confiscated from the facility.
Law enforcement officials also seized large quantities of labels and packaging components designed to imitate genuine Epson products.
According to the company, the spread of counterfeit printing supplies remains a significant challenge across markets, affecting both consumers and businesses.
For customers, counterfeit products can reduce print quality, affect device durability and result in unreliable performance. For businesses, such activities disrupt legitimate distribution channels, undermine partner networks and weaken brand credibility.
A spokesperson for Epson in Dhaka said counterfeit products continued to pose a serious challenge because of their direct impact on customer experience and trust.
“The presence of counterfeit products in the market continues to be a serious concern, as it directly impacts customer experience and trust,” the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson added that the latest enforcement actions highlighted the importance of continued vigilance and cooperation between private companies and law enforcement agencies.
“These enforcement actions demonstrate the importance of sustained vigilance and collaboration with authorities. We value the support extended by local enforcement teams in Bangladesh and remain committed to taking firm action against counterfeit operations,” the spokesperson said.
The company said ensuring customer access to genuine Epson products while supporting its authorised partner ecosystem remained a priority.
The latest crackdown forms part of Epson’s broader effort to protect its intellectual property rights and curb the circulation of counterfeit goods in the market.
Epson said it would continue working closely with relevant stakeholders and enforcement authorities to prevent the spread of counterfeit products and safeguard customer interests.
The operations represent one of the company’s most extensive recent anti-counterfeit enforcement efforts in Bangladesh, targeting both the production and distribution stages of the illegal supply chain.
