Renowned educationist, writer, and essayist Syed Manzoorul Islam passed away on Friday afternoon while undergoing treatment at Labaid Hospital in the capital. He was 73.
Doctors said Manzoorul suffered a massive heart attack and underwent stenting (ring placement). His condition deteriorated shortly after the procedure.
Manzoorul, an emeritus professor of the Department of English at University of Dhaka, had long been suffering from heart disease. He breathed his last 5pm on Friday.
His body was taken to the mortuary of BIRDEM General Hospital. At 11am on Saturday, the body will be taken to the Central Shaheed Minar for final tribute.
Later, a namaj-e-janaza for the deceased will be held at the central mosque of the Dhaka University. Then, he will be laid to rest at Shahid Buddhijibi Graveyard at Mirpur in Dhaka.
