Markets, shopping malls and retail shops across the country will remain open until 10:00pm from May 12 until Eid-ul-Azha to facilitate Eid shopping.
The decision was announced in a press release issued by Bangladesh Shop Owners Association on Thursday.
Earlier, on 4 May, the association requested the Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister to allow markets and shops to remain open until 11pm instead of the existing 7pm closing time.
Following the request, the minister informed Bangladesh Shop Owners Association President Md Helal Uddin on Thursday that the operating hours would be extended until 10pm from 12 May until Eid-ul-Azha.
However, decorative lighting and excessive electricity use will not be allowed in markets, shopping malls and shops during the extended operating hours, the press release said.
