Education Adviser Professor CR Abrar visited the family of factory worker Dipu Chandra Das in Mymensingh on Tuesday to convey the government’s condolences over Dipu’s killing.
The office of the chief adviser described the incident as a heinous criminal act and extended its deepest sympathies to the bereaved family.
During the visit, he met with Rabilal Das, Dipu Chandra Das’s father, and other family members.
Professor CR Abrar conveyed the government’s assurance of support for the family during this difficult time.
Authorities have arrested 12 individuals in connection with the crime, and investigations are ongoing. The interim government has directed that the case be pursued thoroughly and without exception.
The government emphasized that such violence has no justification and no place in Bangladeshi society. It reiterated that the rule of law must prevail, and no individual has the right to take the law into their own hands.
The government called on all communities, institutions, and leaders to reject violence, prevent division, and uphold restraint, humanity, and respect for the law.
The office of the chief adviser confirmed that financial and welfare assistance will be provided to Dipu Chandra Das’s family, and relevant authorities will maintain close contact with them in the coming period. The government reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety, dignity, and equal protection of all citizens and to delivering justice in the case.
According to reports, Dipu Chandra Das was beaten to death by a mob and later set on fire on December 18 in Dubaliyapara, Hobirbari Union, Bhaluka, following allegations that he had hurt religious Muslim sentiments. His body was later found hanging from a tree along the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway.
His brother, Apu Chandra Das, filed a case on 19 December against 140–150 unidentified individuals in connection with the killing.
