ECNEC approves 13 projects worth Tk8,333cr

The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) on Wednesday approved 13 development projects involving an overall estimated cost of Tk8,333.28 crore.

Of the total cost, Tk4,437.82 crore will come from the government’s fund and Tk1,225.36 crore as project assistance, while the remaining Tk2,670.09 crore will be borne from the implementing agencies’ own funds, UNB reports.

Chief Adviser and ECNEC Chairperson Muhammad Yunus presided over the meeting held at the NEC conference room in the city’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.

Among the approved schemes, seven are new projects, five are revised ones while one project received an extension without increasing cost.

Significant among the approved projects include “Information Apa: Empowerment of Women” through ICT (Phase-2, 3rd revised) under the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs and modernisation of research labs and infrastructure development at Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (DUET), Gazipur.

Export Competitiveness for Jobs (EC4J, 3rd revised) under the Commerce Ministry, Construction of multipurpose cyclone shelters in coastal areas (Phase-3) under the Disaster Management and Relief Ministry, and Sheikh Hasina Specialised Jute Textile Mill (1st revised for completion ) and proposed Jamuna Specialised Jute and Textile Mill (1st revised) under the Textiles and Jute Ministry.

Three projects under the Local Government Division including Khulna Water Supply Project (Phase-2), solid waste management initiative in Narayanganj City Corporation, and Integrated Service and Livelihood for Displaced People from Myanmar and Host Communities (LGED part) were among the approved projects.

The other projects are Sylhet Osmani International Airport Expansion (Phase-1, 1st revised) and Construction of multi-storey flats for government officials at Mirpur Paikpara, Dhaka (1st revised, 4th extension).

The ECNEC members were also apprised of 11 projects earlier approved by the planning adviser.
