The Election Commission (EC) has published the draft list of polling centres for the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election, with a total of 42,618 centres proposed across the country.
The announcement was made by EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed, during a press briefing held at the EC headquarters at Agargaon in Dhaka on Wednesday.
According to the EC official, Bangladesh currently has 12, 61, 61,201 registered voters. Based on the average of one polling centre per 3,000 voters, the total number of centres has been determined.
To accommodate the electorate, the EC has also proposed a total of 24, 4,046 polling booths, with 114,939 booths allocated for male voters (based on 600 voters per booth), and 129,107 booths for female voters (based on 500 voters per booth).
Akhtar Ahmed stated that the rise in the number of voters has led to an increase in both polling centres and booths.
The draft list is now open for public review, with objections or claims accepted until September 25. The resolution of these submissions is scheduled by October 12, and the final list will be published on October 20, he added.
