Selectors pulled back several senior names who missed the recent Bangladesh tour, clearly prioritising experience over rotation. The Dutch want players who understand tournament pressure rather than potential projects.
Roelof van der Merwe returns to bolster balance and control, while Bas de Leede and Michael Levitt add flexibility across the order. Zach Lion-Cachet also re-enters the setup after the Europe qualifier secured the World Cup ticket.
Colin Ackermann’s recall stands out. The veteran allrounder last played T20 internationals in November 2024, but the Netherlands value his calm decision-making and ability to influence games in tight moments.
Timm van der Gugten also comes back into the T20 fold after a year away. The seamer arrives with rhythm, having taken six wickets in ten T20 Blast matches, and offers pace options on Asian surfaces.
Logan van Beek completes the list of returning names. He last featured at the previous T20 World Cup and has since kept match sharpness through New Zealand’s Super Smash with Wellington.
The omissions underline the shift in thinking. Teja Nidamanuru, Tim Pringle and Vikramjit Singh drop out despite featuring in Bangladesh, while several fringe players also miss selection as the Dutch narrow their core.
The Netherlands sit in Group A alongside Pakistan, Namibia, the United States and defending champions India. It marks their seventh Men’s T20 World Cup appearance, with memories still sharp of the famous 2009 win over England.
Scott Edwards will lead the side into the tournament, starting against Pakistan on February 7 in Colombo. The Dutch know the margin for error stays thin, and this squad screams trust in battle-hardened hands.
