The construction of Bangladesh-China Maitree Hall at the University of Dhaka (DU), with financial assistance from the Chinese government, is progressing rapidly, according to officials.
With an estimated cost of Tk244 crore, the project is expected to provide accommodation for approximately 1,500 female students.
According to a statement issued by Mohammad Rofiqul Islam, acting director of the DU public relations office, the Economic Relations Division (ERD) submitted the proposal to the Chinese government several months ago through the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka. The Chinese government has already approved the proposal, and the relevant internal procedures are currently being finalised, they said.
The statement further mentioned that a team of experts from China is expected to arrive in Dhaka soon to conduct the project’s feasibility study, following the completion of these procedures.
Vice-Chancellor of DU Professor Dr Niaz Ahmed Khan has been maintaining regular communication with the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka to ensure the swift implementation of the project, according to the administration.
