With only a few days remaining until Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the Hindu community, a festive atmosphere is spreading across the country, including the capital Dhaka. Last-minute preparations are underway at various pandals.
Durga Puja will begin on 28th September with Mahasashthi and conclude on 2nd October, Vijaya Dashami, with the immersion of the idols, marking the end of the five-day festival.
Ahead of the festival, many people are busy shopping for new clothes, idol artisans are painting the idols, while others are engaged in constructing pandals, lighting decorations, and arranging other festival-related preparations.
A field visit to several temples in Dhaka shows that at Dhakeshwari National Temple, Ramakrishna Math and Mission, Ramna Kali Temple, Azimpur Government Colony Puja Pandal, Jaykali Temple, and Shri Shri Shanidev Temple in Shankhari Bazar, lighting and other decorative works are in full swing. The pandals are almost ready, with painting and other preparations nearing completion.
Organisers said it will still take another two to three days to complete all arrangements. At the Ramna Kali Temple grounds, the idols are nearly finished and being painted.
Regarding this, idol artisan Ratan Pal said, “The painting of the idols is almost complete. Now the finishing touches are being done.”
