A duplex house owned by Nadim Hasan, brother of former Dhaka-18 lawmaker Habib Hasan, was set on fire in Uttara Sector 14 on Monday evening.
Witnesses said a group of agitated individuals stormed the property in the Ahalia area and set fire to the building. A private car parked in front of the house was completely gutted, while portions of the residence sustained fire damage.
Former MP Habib Hasan is reported to be abroad and in hiding, while his brother Nadim has been in jail since his arrest on 8 May.
Rozina Akter, duty officer at the Fire Service and Civil Defence control room, confirmed the incident. She said the fire at the residence had already been extinguished before firefighters reached the scene.
However, she noted that two units were dispatched to a separate blaze at a nearby shop and managed to bring it under control.
