The newly elected leaders of the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) have officially started their term of office, with the first meeting of the Executive Council held on Sunday morning. The meeting took place in the lounge next to the Vice-Chancellor’s office and was presided over by Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor and DUCSU President Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan.
The meeting was attended by the newly elected Vice-President Md Abu Sadik Kayem, General Secretary SM Farhad, Assistant General Secretary Mohiuddin Khan, and other elected secretaries and members of the central council.
Addressing the press after the meeting, Vice-President Md Abu Sadik Kayem emphasized, “Today marks the beginning of our formal activities. Students will hold us accountable, and we are committed to fulfilling our promises.”
He further added, “There were no losers in this election. We all will work together. Our action plan will be announced soon, and we are determined to implement all our commitments.”
In the recently concluded DUCSU elections, candidates from the student wing-supported ‘Ekattor Shikkharthi Jote’ secured 23 out of the 28 central council seats. The remaining five seats were won by independent candidates, with Hema Chakma, backed by the leftist ‘Protibad Parishad’, securing one of the seats.
Among the 23 active student organizations registered at Dhaka University, no group other than the student wing managed to win any central council seat.
