The newly elected body of the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) has declared the lifetime membership awarded to then prime minister Sheikh Hasina in 2019 as “illegal,” and revoked it.

The decision was made during the second executive meeting of Ducsu on Wednesday evening. Ducsu Vice President Sadik Kayem confirmed the matter after the meeting.

He said in 2019, a resolution was used to grant Sheikh Hasina lifetime membership in violation of the Ducsu constitution, which was considered entirely “undemocratic and illegal.” The controversial resolution has been annulled in Wednesday’s general meeting.

The meeting was held at the Ducsu conference room at 6pm, and was chaired by Ducsu President and Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan. The newly elected representatives of Ducsu were present there.
