Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has announced a series of measures to ease passenger movement and reduce congestion at the Sayedabad Inter-District Bus Terminal ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.

The decisions were taken at an emergency meeting held Tuesday at Nagar Bhaban under the chairmanship of DSCC Administrator Abdus Salam.

Representatives from DSCC, Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Dhaka Road Transport Bus Owners Association, Sayedabad Inter-District Bus Terminal Transport Owners Association and Sayedabad Inter-District Bus Terminal Transport Workers Committee attended the meeting.

DSCC said it will modernise terminal management, remove illegal ticket counters and upgrade infrastructure to ensure smoother travel for passengers during the Eid holiday rush.

Authorities decided to remove all illegal ticket counters and roadside shops along the road from the slope of Sayedabad Bridge to TT Para after issuing notices within a specified timeframe.

A separate drive will also remove illegal shops operating inside the terminal.

Ticket counters inside the terminal will be allocated to legitimate bus companies under specific policies.

The Bus Owners Association, DSCC and police traffic authorities will jointly oversee the allocation process.

The meeting also decided that buses must use five designated bus bays instead of using the terminal as a parking depot.

Vehicles will be allowed to wait only 20 to 30 minutes to pick up passengers.

Passenger facilities will also be upgraded.

DSCC said a new information desk and breastfeeding room will be established at the terminal.

Authorities have also ordered immediate completion of unfinished renovation work, repair of toilets and measures to remove waterlogging before the Eid travel period.

The transport owners association has been requested to take strict action to prevent buses from charging fares above the government-approved rates during the Eid rush.

Traffic police have also been instructed to seize and remove abandoned buses parked inside the terminal for long periods to reduce congestion on surrounding roads.

“We, the City Corporation, police, bus owners and workers, will work together to ensure smooth Eid journeys and resolve long-term traffic congestion,” DSCC Administrator Abdus Salam said.

“Coordinated decisions will be implemented to provide relief to passengers.”

Later in the afternoon, the 12th corporation meeting of the Dhaka South City Corporation Management Committee was held at Nagar Bhaban under the chairmanship of the DSCC administrator.

Members of the board congratulated the administrator and expressed hope that he would play a strong role in implementing the ‘Green City, Clean City’ vision of the prime minister.
