A three-year-old boy was allegedly strangled to death by his drug-addicted father in the capital’s Badda area.
Police have arrested the accused father in this connection. The body of the child, Habib, was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy on Tuesday.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Jamal Hossain confirmed the matter.
The incident took place at around 9:30pm on Monday at a house in West Rishipara under Julhas Miah’s residence in Badda Borobari area. The family originally hails from Hasiakandi village in Saghata upazila of Gaibandha.

On Monday night, the elder son was not at home. The child’s mother had gone out to buy medicine he added.
After returning home, she found the room locked from inside. She repeatedly called her husband to open the door, but he did not respond. Later, the house owner and neighbours gathered at the spot. Shahin then opened the door and allegedly confessed that he had killed his son inside the room.
Neighbours and relatives then entered the room and found the child lying dead on the bed. They immediately detained Shahin and kept him confined.
SI Jamal Hossain farther said police received information via the emergency helpline 999 and reached the scene around 11:00pm.
“Officers recovered the body and arrested the accused father, later taking him to the police station” he added.
During primary interrogation, Shahin reportedly confessed to strangling his son to death.
According to locals, Shahin was addicted to drugs and used to pressure his wife for money to buy drugs. He would also physically assault her when she refused. Family disputes over these issues had been ongoing.
However, police said the reason behind the killing of the child remains unclear.
