The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) has banned drone operations at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport and all other airports across the country, citing serious risks to national security and safe aircraft movement.
The restriction also applies to areas surrounding airports, CAAB said in a statement issued on Tuesday.
According to the authority, the Drone Registration and Operation Policy 2020 already strictly prohibit unauthorised drone flights in and around airport zones.
However, the latest directive followed an incident on 19 December, when several electronic media outlets flew drones inside the airport area without permission while covering the transfer of the body of Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi.
CAAB said three advisers and several other important individuals were present at the airport at the time.
The authority warned that such unauthorised drone operations pose a grave threat to aviation safety and could disrupt aircraft take-off and landing.
In the statement, CAAB urged electronic media representatives and members of the public to refrain from flying drones in airport areas under any circumstances, emphasising that enforcement would remain strict to prevent potential hazards.
The aviation regulator said it would continue monitoring compliance to ensure safe and secure airport operations nationwide.
