A passenger bus veered off the Dhaka-Barishal highway and plunged into a roadside ditch in the Baroitola area of Muksudpur upazila, Gopalganj, leaving the driver dead and at least 10 others injured.
The accident occurred around 10 pm on Monday, 29 July.
The deceased has been identified as Rafiqul Sikder, son of Manik Sikder of Betagi village in Dashmina upazila of Patuakhali district.
Police said the Dhaka-bound passenger bus lost control and overturned into a ditch after reaching the Baroitola bus stand area. Rafiqul, the driver, died on the spot.
Responding to the emergency, teams from the Bhanga Highway Police Station and Bhanga Fire Service recovered the body and rescued the injured, who were admitted to Bhanga Upazila Health Complex.
Bhanga Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Rokibuzzaman said, “A police team rushed to the spot immediately after receiving the report. One body was recovered and the injured were sent to hospital. Legal action is underway.”
