The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has decided to apply mosquito insecticide three times a day to control the growing mosquito menace in the capital.
This decision comes alongside the formation of a specialised Quick Response Team (QRT) to strengthen and streamline extermination efforts.
DNCC Administrator Md Shafiqul Islam Khan has accorded the highest priority to mosquito control since taking office, initiating integrated measures to tackle the issue.
Under his direction, urban mosquito control activities have been restructured, with the new thrice-daily schedule taking effect from Tuesday.
According to a letter signed by the DNCC Chief Health Officer, Brigadier General Imrul Kayes Chowdhury, the new timetable mandates to destroy mosquito larvae.
Fogging operations will be conducted in the afternoon and evening, as well as during the night, tailored to the “Peak Flight and Activity Time” of mosquitoes in specific regions.
This triple-action approach aims to ensure exhaustive efforts in controlling mosquito breeding and spread.
The authorities confirmed that mosquito control activities will continue through weekly holidays. Relevant health officials have been instructed to supervise the regional teams on-site to ensure regular activity.
The newly formed QRT has already commenced special operations in identified hotspots. Furthermore, an updated list of breeding grounds – including drains, sewerage lines, water bodies, and canals – has been prepared to facilitate targeted interventions.
The DNCC is placing maximum importance on the prevention of dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases. Necessary instructions have been issued to ensure the attendance and performance of all mosquito control workers, supported by field-level monitoring.
In addition to official measures, the DNCC has urged citizens to actively cooperate by maintaining cleanliness in their homes, roofs, balconies, and surrounding areas. Residents are requested to follow proper waste management practices and ensure that water does not remain stagnant, thereby helping to destroy potential mosquito breeding sites.
