Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has directed all units to remain on heightened vigilance to maintain law and order and prevent criminal activities ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha.
Acting Police Commissioner Md Sarwar issued the directive while addressing senior officials at the monthly crime review meeting for April 2026 held at the DMP Headquarters on Thursday, according to a press release.
He called for maximum vigilance against offences such as counterfeit currency circulation, mugging by drugging gangs, pickpocketing and other forms of street crime during the Eid season.
The acting commissioner also emphasised the need to ensure smooth traffic management around cattle markets to prevent congestion. He directed traffic police to strengthen supervision at launch ghat, bus terminals and railway stations, while also increasing foot patrols across the city.
Md Sarwar further instructed police stations to intensify anti-drug operations and arrest fugitives with pending warrants, stressing that proactive measures must be taken to prevent criminal activities within local jurisdictions.
Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operations) SN Md Nazrul Islam said the overall law and order situation in the capital remains stable but urged continued vigilance to maintain the trend.
He stressed the importance of maintaining this stability and directed officials to continue ongoing special operations to arrest extortionists and muggers.
The meeting also reviewed the performance of the previous month and recognised officers for their contributions to maintaining law and order, crime control and public safety. Awards were distributed in various categories by the acting commissioner.
Senior DMP officials, including additional commissioners, joint commissioners, deputy commissioners, assistant commissioners and officers-in-charge of all police stations, were present at the meeting.
