The Traffic Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has filed 2,160 cases against vehicles, owners and drivers for violating traffic rules during a day-long enforcement drive across the capital.
According to a DMP media release issued on Thursday, the cases were filed and fines realised on Wednesday as part of the force’s regular campaign against traffic rule violations.
Among the cases, 85 were filed by the Ramna Traffic Division, 155 by Lalbagh, 403 by Motijheel, 181 by Wari, 173 by Tejgaon, 479 by Mirpur, 445 by Uttara and 239 by Gulshan. The drives targeted motor vehicles, three-wheelers and motorcycles.
The DMP also impounded 498 vehicles and towed away another 367 for traffic violations and poor driving practices, said Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) NM Nasiruddin.
The police said the drives would continue to improve discipline on city roads and ensure smoother movement for commuters across the capital.
