Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) jailed 51 individuals and imposed fines of Tk2.61 lakh on the second day of a special drive to clear roads and footpaths in the capital.

Law enforcers, along with executive magistrates, seized goods occupying roads and pavements and removed illegal structures in different areas.

In the Traffic Lalbagh Division, 13 traders were fined Tk6,000 for violating regulations, while legal steps are underway to send detained individuals to court.

Traffic Wari Division conducted a drive from Jatrabari intersection to the Signboard area, evicting illegal roadside shops and business establishments.

A total of Tk22,500 in fines was imposed on 13 traders, while others were warned.

In the Traffic Ramna Division, operations were carried out in the Shahbagh zone, covering Dhaka Medical College, Nimtoli, Bangabazar and Golap Shah Mazar areas.

During the drive, 56 video cases and 12 instant cases were filed against illegally parked motorcycles.

A mobile court also imposed Tk22,500 in fines and seized goods from illegal occupants.

In the Traffic Mirpur Division, a drive in the Pallabi zone from Mirpur-10 to Mirpur-12 cleared roads of illegal occupation.

Authorities imposed Tk55,000 in fines in 16 cases during the operation.

On Wednesday, DMP fined Tk1.92 lakh and jailed 23 individuals in a coordinated drive across the capital.

The drive will continue at different locations until April 5, said DMP Assistant Police Commissioner Media and Public Relations Arifa Akhter Preeti.
