The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has imposed a ban on all kinds of public gatherings in several important areas surrounding the Supreme Court and the Chief Justice’s official residence, effective from Tuesday until further notice.

The restriction was announced on Monday evening through a public notification signed by DMP Commissioner Sheikh Mohammad Sajjat Ali.

According to the notice, the order was issued under Section 29 of the DMP Ordinance (Ordinance No. III/76) to maintain public order.

The DMP also warned that no roads should be blocked under the pretext of protests or demands, as such actions would disrupt traffic movement in the capital.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court administration has restricted public entry to the National Eidgah grounds, located near the Supreme Court premises, to ensure security ahead of the 13 November verdict in a war crimes case involving former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, and another accused.

Officials said the decision was made to avert untoward incidents and to maintain overall security in and around the Supreme Court and the International Crimes Tribunal areas.
