Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 555 individuals and recovered a significant quantity of illegal firearms, ammunition, and various narcotics during special operations conducted throughout June to maintain law and order and curb criminal activities.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Niaz Mehedi shared the information on Wednesday.

According to DMP’s monthly crime statistics, a total of 363 cases were filed in June related to arms and narcotics.

Of these, nine cases were registered under the Arms Act, while 354 were filed under the Narcotics Control Act. The arrests included 16 suspects in arms-related cases and 539 in narcotics cases.

During the month-long drive, law enforcement officials seized four foreign pistols, 88 rounds of ammunition, seven magazines, and 20 locally made weapons.

The narcotics recovery included 2,33,412 Yaba tablets, 407.281 kg of cannabis, 2.909 kg of heroin, and 319 bottles of Phensedyl.

Additionally, police seized 76 bottles (450 ml) of foreign liquor, 3 litres of local liquor, 24 litres and 70 ml of moonshine (cholai mod), 34 cans and four bottles of beer, 74 Tapentadol tablets, and 144 bottles of Eskuf syrup.

The DMP stated that these special operations will continue in the future to prevent the use of illegal weapons, suppress terrorist activities, control the drug trade, and ensure overall law and order in the capital.
