State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed has said that the government is pursuing diplomatic efforts to resolve the ongoing issue of “push-in” incidents along the Bangladesh-India border.
Speaking on Friday evening at the inauguration ceremony of the Salta Press Club in Faridpur, she said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is actively working to address the matter through diplomatic channels, while the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) remains on alert along the border.
She alleged that attempts are being made to push individuals into Bangladesh from India, and said BGB is working to prevent such incidents. According to her, the Foreign Ministry has already sent 12 to 13 letters to the Indian government in New Delhi regarding the issue.
“We expect the Indian government to follow proper procedures in cases of repatriation of illegal nationals. If any illegal Indian nationals are found in Bangladesh, we will also follow diplomatic procedures to send them back,” she said, adding that night-time push-in activities should be avoided.
The state minister expressed hope that both countries would adhere to established diplomatic norms in managing cross-border issues.
She also commented on the proposed national budget, describing it as “historic” and “people-friendly.” She said the budget places special emphasis on the health, education, power and energy sectors, and includes tax and VAT exemptions on several essential goods.
The event was presided over by Salta Upazila Press Club President Nurul Islam Nahid.
Among others present were Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Daber Uddin, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md Mamun Sarkar, Assistant Superintendent of Police (Faridpur Circle) Muhammad Al Fahad, former president of Nagarkanda Upazila BNP Siddiqur Rahman Talukder, and BNP leader Asad Matubbar.
