Actor Dia Mirza has spoken candidly about the unsolicited beauty advice she has received from men, saying they have repeatedly urged her to alter her appearance through cosmetic procedures.
In an interview with SheThePeople, Dia said she has experienced ageism and revealed that men have often suggested she should “enhance” her looks.
She said such comments have always come from men, not women.
“It has never been a woman who sat me down and said, ‘Go inject your lips, your lips are too thin,’ or ‘Enhance your breasts, they are too small.’ It is always a man who tells you to do that,” she said.
Dia’s remarks come amid wider discussions about beauty standards that often judge women by physical features such as waist size, breasts, hips and lips.
She said women are frequently made to feel that they do not fit conventional standards of beauty, leading to unsolicited advice on how they should change their appearance.
Speaking on the growing popularity of cosmetic procedures, Dia said it is frightening to see more women opting for such treatments while men continue to drive the industry by capitalising on women’s fears.
