Twenty-seven flights have been cancelled at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka following airspace closures across the Middle East.
The airport’s Executive Director Group Captain SM Ragib Samad confirmed the information to the media on Sunday morning.
Flights from Bangladesh to several destinations in the region have been suspended since Saturday afternoon after multiple countries temporarily shut their skies in response to US and Israeli strikes on Iran and Tehran’s retaliation.
In a notice, the Dhaka airport authorities said Bahrain, Kuwait, Dubai and Qatar were among those enforcing closures, forcing airlines to cancel, delay or reschedule services.
As news spread, hundreds of passengers including migrant workers, business travellers, Umrah pilgrims and those in transit crowded the airport, many left stranded and facing hardship.
