Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman has stated that if the trend in the results continues in the same manner as the voting has proceeded so far, then Jamaat will accept the outcome.
He made this announcement during a press conference at 7pm on Thursday.
He said, “Since its inception, Jamaat-e-Islami has been banned repeatedly. It has never ceased to exist. Those who took the helm have passed away. Some died natural deaths, while others departed after being victims of oppression.”
Regarding the results, he stated, “Preliminary election results have begun to arrive. It is not prudent to comment prematurely. We have faith in the people. The initial results are giving indications. This cannot be confirmed yet. The interest of the country is paramount to us. In most places where results have come in so far, we are leading. We need to wait a little longer.”
Addressing expatriates, he said, “None of us were able to vote in the last three elections. This time, expatriates were also able to vote. They make significant contributions to our national life. They have been deprived of many rights. Once the right to vote is established, the rest will follow naturally. If we fulfill our duties towards them, they will give us even more.”
Shafiqur Rahman further remarked, “During the July movement, those who announced they would stop sending remittances shook the government’s foundation. In many places, they protested defying bans. Many among them were arrested and even died in jail. We recognize their sacrifices. Once in power, their facilities and opportunities will be increased.”
“I express my deep gratitude to the mothers and sisters who took to the streets in July. We will endeavor to give them the highest respect.”
Speaking about media personnel, he said, “Journalists have cooperated with us. We are grateful to them. I could not inquire about their well-being. Inquiring was my responsibility. I apologize. We will work together. It is not possible to build the country alone from any one side. Politicians and journalists must remain vigilant on all fronts,” he noted.
Expressing gratitude to the nation’s citizens, he said, “Much apprehension was spread. No major scandal occurred. When living together in society, mistakes and errors can happen.”
Regarding his rival candidate, the Jamaat ameer said, “We met today as well. Either one of us will win. We will accept the victory of either side. If I am elected, I will work collectively after consulting everyone. If we form the government, I will seek cooperation from all parties. We will maintain good relations with countries with whom we have friendly ties; with an open mind, we will give everyone their due and secure our own rights.”
He further stated, “Never before have as many observers come as this time. This has contributed positively to the conduct of the election. I express my gratitude to all who performed their duties from their respective positions.”
