A woman has died of dengue while 11 new patients with the disease were admitted to hospitals in Faridpur in the 24 hours until Friday morning.
The deceased was identified as Nasrin Sultana, 30, of Chowdhurykanda area in Bhanga upazila.
Nasrin, a mother of two sons, was admitted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital on 18 August after developing dengue symptoms. She died around 1:00am on Friday while undergoing treatment, Faridpur Civil Surgeon Dr Mahmudul Hasan said.
He said 163 dengue patients had received treatment at government hospitals during the period, while 25 patients are currently undergoing treatment.
Nasrin’s husband Miraj Sheikh alleged that she was first admitted to Bhanga Hospital after developing a fever, but doctors did not conduct a dengue test despite advising several examinations.
As her condition deteriorated, the family consulted another doctor, who advised a dengue test. She was later taken to Faridpur Medical College Hospital after testing positive for dengue.
“If we had known earlier that my wife had dengue, perhaps we could have arranged treatment sooner and made greater efforts to save her,” Miraj said.
Amid a rise in dengue cases across the district, the civil surgeon urged people showing symptoms, especially fever, to seek medical advice and undergo tests without delay.
