Cricketers’ Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) has urged the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to launch an immediate investigation after former national women’s team captain Jahanara Alam accused several officials, including former selector Manjurul Islam Manju, of sexual harassment and mental abuse.
In a statement signed by CWAB president Mohammad Mithun, the organisation expressed its full support for Jahanara during what it described as a difficult time and pledged to provide her with every possible form of assistance. The statement noted that the former captain’s tearful account of abuse had deeply shaken the entire cricket community.
“Each of Jahanara Alam’s allegations is extremely serious and cannot be ignored,” the statement read. “The BCB should conduct a prompt and transparent investigation involving all those named, including the team manager, selector, former in-charge, and coach. Any delay or attempt to conceal the matter would be unacceptable.”
CWAB further stated that the investigation must be completed as quickly as possible and that anyone found guilty should face exemplary punishment to ensure no woman cricketer faces such circumstances again.
The association also called for a discreet inquiry into whether similar incidents are occurring in domestic and local-level women’s cricket. “Our support for Jahanara goes beyond sympathy,” CWAB said. “We are fully committed to standing by her and providing all necessary assistance in her pursuit of justice.”
