In a heartfelt tribute to one of Bangladesh’s most cherished cultural icons, the Ministry of Cultural Affairs has unveiled a 25-minute documentary on the life and legacy of Humayun Ahmed.
The film, directed by ‘Debi’ filmmaker Anam Biswas, offers an intimate glimpse into the world of the beloved author, filmmaker and playwright, whose work has shaped the cultural fabric of the nation.
Released on November 18 through the official Facebook page of the Chief Adviser’s Office, the documentary delves into Humayun Ahmed’s enduring influence, exploring his multi-faceted contributions to literature, television and cinema.
Describing him as not only the most widely-read writer in Bangladesh but also a trailblazer in filmmaking and music, the accompanying message highlights iconic characters like Himu, Misir Ali, Rupa and Shuvro, figures that became inseparable from the cultural imagination, all thanks to Humayun’s distinctive storytelling.
The documentary is part of the Ministry’s broader ‘Celebrating Bangladeshi Legends’ series, a project aimed at honoring the nation’s artistic giants.
This release comes after Cultural Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki’s previous promise to celebrate contemporary Bangladeshi artists at a state level, with Humayun Ahmed’s tribute marking a significant milestone in this ongoing initiative.
In the film, renowned actor, director and painter Afzal Hossain shares his personal reflections on Humayun’s creative genius, reading excerpts from his works that continue to resonate with audiences.
Writer and journalist Faruk Wasif, as well as others like Luna Rushdi and Parmita Him, also offer their memories and insights, painting a portrait of a man whose impact extends far beyond his literary achievements.
