The Election Commission of Chattogram University has published the final voter list for the Central Students’ Union (CUCSU) election. According to the list, a total of 27,634 students are eligible to vote.
The information was released on the university’s official website on Sunday morning. In a new move, the Election Commission has made a “dope test,” mandatory for all candidates.
The distribution of nomination forms will begin at 9:30am from the CUCSU Election Commission office. Candidates can collect nomination papers until September 16, and submission will remain open until 3:30pm on September 17. The nomination form is priced at BDT 300, while hall student union nomination forms require a BDT 200 cash deposit, and candidates must collect the forms along with a receipt from the CUCSU office.
The election schedule was previously announced on August 28. Voting will be held in the university’s faculty buildings. The preliminary candidate list will be published on September 21, the deadline for withdrawal is September 23, and the final list of candidates will be released on September 25. CUCSU voting will take place on October 12 from 9am to 4pm, followed immediately by counting.
Chief Election Commissioner Professor Monir Uddin told journalists on September 10 that no residential halls will serve as polling stations this year. Students of each hall will be assigned faculty buildings for voting, and the schedule will be announced in due course.
He explained, “In 1990, voting was held at the university’s Laboratory School. This year, it has been decided to conduct elections in faculty buildings because the majority of non-residential students are more familiar with faculty buildings than the halls.”
Professor Uddin also confirmed that, like DUCSU elections, CUCSU votes will be counted using the OMR system.
