The Local Government Division has suspended all new and ongoing government work-related tenders and procurement activities until new rules are framed and a revised rate schedule is published under the Public Procurement (Amendment) Ordinance, 2026.
The decision was announced in a circular issued on Thursday by the Administration-1 section of the Local Government Division under the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives.
Signed by Senior Assistant Secretary ABM Ariful Islam, the circular said the suspension applies to procurement related to works, services and goods.
The restriction will remain in place until the required rules are finalised and the new rate schedule is published.
However, the suspension will not apply to matters of urgent national importance, according to the circular.
The directive will remain effective until further instructions. All concerned agencies have been asked to take the necessary steps to implement the decision.
