A group of students of Chittagong University (CU) formed a human chain to express solidarity with the ongoing student movement in India.
The human chain was held at 10am on Thursday at the university’s Central Shaheed Minar premises.
During the programme, participants displayed placards reading “Our solidarity with Indian student protesters” to show their support for the students involved in the movement.
The event was presided over by Azizur Rahman Abdullah, president of Chuvian Pathchakra and a third-year student of the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies.
Addressing the gathering, Abdullah said, “A spring against autocracy has begun across the subcontinent. The ongoing movement is a continuation of that. The use of force against protesters is in no way acceptable. Students have raised their logical demands, and those demands must be accepted by avoiding repression.
“Indian students supported our logical movement in 2024. We are also expressing our full solidarity with their logical movement. From Chittagong University, we extend our condolences to the injured and our support for the movement.”
Others present at the human chain included Akhtar Hossain Dolon, a student of the Department of Sociology; Ashik Ar Rahman, president of ‘Voice of Student’; Arafat Al Riyad from the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies; Ulfatur Rakib from the Department of Dramatics; Toufiqul Islam from the Department of Bengali; and Arzina from the Department of Fisheries.
