The Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) has commissioned a state-of-the-art cyber security system aimed at protecting the country’s busiest seaport from global cyber threats and strengthening its digital infrastructure, maritime logistics and online operations.
The system was officially inaugurated on Sunday by CPA Chairman Rear Admiral SM Moniruzzaman at a ceremony held at the port authority’s conference room.
Members of the CPA board, project directors, departmental and branch heads, and technical experts involved in project implementation attended the programme.
According to the port authority, the expansion of digital platforms, automated logistics, internet-based services and financial technologies in the global maritime sector has improved operational efficiency but also increased exposure to cyber security risks. The CPA said the new system has been introduced to address these threats and protect critical digital infrastructure and operational data.
As part of the initiative, the CPA signed an agreement on 11 January with Dockyard and Engineering Works Limited, Narayanganj, a defence engineering company operated by the Bangladesh Navy, to develop and implement the cyber security infrastructure.
The system includes early detection of cyber threats, access control for sensitive information, protection against viruses and malware, real-time cyber intelligence, prevention of distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks, continuous network monitoring, forensic investigation of cyber incidents and round-the-clock surveillance through a Network and Security Operations Centre (NOC/SOC).
Port officials said the system will also support compliance with the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code while ensuring uninterrupted terminal operations and creating a more secure and transparent digital environment for port users, traders and international shipping partners.
The CPA said the new cyber security infrastructure will enhance the port’s digital resilience and strengthen Chattogram Port’s position as a secure, efficient and internationally competitive maritime logistics hub.
