Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) has imposed a one-month ban on all forms of public gatherings, including rallies, processions, human chains, and street meetings in the Chattogram port area.
The ban will be in effect from Saturday (11 October), for the next 30 days, according to a public notice signed by CMP Commissioner Hasib Aziz on Thursday night.
The restriction, enforced under Section 30 of the Chattogram Metropolitan Police Ordinance, 1978, applies to key locations such as Barik Building intersection, Nimtala intersection, Jetty Gate No. 3, Customs intersection, and Saltgola Crossing, among others.
The CMP stated that the Chattogram port is a vital economic hub handling the majority of the country’s import-export operations, with 5,000 to 6,000 cargo vehicles moving daily.
Public gatherings in the area cause serious disruptions to traffic and port operations, potentially harming the national economy.
The decision aims to ensure smooth traffic flow and uninterrupted port activities, the CMP said in its notice.
