A Dhaka court has ordered the seizure of land worth Tk1.75 crore belonging to ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s former peon, Jahangir Alam.

The court also ordered the freezing of Tk1.03 crore in seven bank accounts owned by Jahangir’s wife, Kamrun Nahar.

Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed the order on Tuesday following an application by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), said court assistant Md Riaz Hossain.

ACC Deputy Director Piyas Pal filed two separate applications, citing risks that Jahangir’s property could be transferred or ownership altered through deeds or other means.

The applications also noted that Kamrun Nahar’s movable assets held in banks could similarly be transferred or manipulated. The court approved both applications after hearing the arguments.

Earlier, on 17 December last year, the ACC filed cases against Jahangir and his wife. The allegations state that Kamrun Nahar acquired undisclosed wealth worth Tk6.80 crore, violating Section 27(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004, and Section 109 of the Penal Code.

Jahangir allegedly amassed illegal assets worth Tk18.29 crore.

The court’s order ensures both movable and immovable assets remain under ACC supervision during the ongoing investigation.
